The concept of “Bras for a Cause™” is to have individuals, corporations, teams, and organizations decorate a theme bra and submit it to our club with a $100 donation.
We will host a benefit dinner and auction. During the evening, the theme bras will be sold via a live and silent auction. The ballroom will hold 400 guests and we expect a sell out crowd!
In addition to theme bra submissions, we are seeking corporate donations of items suitable for either our live or silent auction.
Bras for a Cause™ was started to raise money for breast cancer research and equipment. The first event was in 2005 with more than 100 bras decorated and donated. Since then we have raised a lot of support! In 2007 the net proceeds were $55,980 and in 2008 we netted $75,567.
The proceeds of our last event went to the BC Cancer Foundation for the implementation of a Integrated Breast Health Diagnostic Centre to be located at the Surrey Memorial New Out Patient Facility, serving the entire Fraser Valley. Our first priority is to purchase a core biopsy probe for the new clinic.
We support and encourage all women to get screened. Free Screening Mammograms for eligible women. Doctor's referral is not required. Eligibility requirements include: BC female resident ages 40-79 (women outside of this age group are accepted with a doctor's referral), have no breast changes (new lumps, thickening or discharge), can provide the name of a doctor or clinic to receive the results, have not had a mammogram within 12 months, have not had breast cancer, do not have breast implants and are not pregnant or breast feeding.
